Five Tips for Skincare, Health & Wellness

Whew, 2020 was a tough one, right? While so many of us were staying home to stay safe, we may have let self-care slide. (Hey, during a pandemic, anything you do to stay sane is self-care, even if that means binge watching Netflix!) For some, the diet was out the window, in favor of baking the perfect sourdough bread. For others, the diet was their form of salvation, going for long walks, doing online yoga lessons or killing it on their Peloton. Well, just in case you forgot (during the most difficult year in history!) we're here to remind you of a few tips for skincare, health and wellness to keep you glowing!

1. Get out there. 

Spending time in the great outdoors can relieve stress and improve your mood. Sit outside and sip a cup of tea in the morning. During the work day, step outside during your lunch break and take a few deep breaths. (Even if you work in Manhattan, find a park or a bench where you can see the sky!) When you have time, go for a long walk (put that kid in a stroller and take them along!), go biking or putter around in your garden. Don’t have one? Buy some potted plants that you can keep out on a patio. There’s a healing, restorative quality to fresh air and sunshine. Don’t forget the sunscreen! 

 2. Get your vitamins. 

It’s no secret that healthy eating can help you maintain good mental and physical health. But according to a study by the CDC, only 1 in 10 adults eats the daily recommended number of fruits and vegetables. Are you one of those? A good way to squeeze in your fruits and veggies is by enjoying smoothies. The CDC recommends 3 cups of vegetables and 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit daily. Another way to fill nutritional gaps is to take a multivitamin every day. Set an alarm on your phone, or put your vitamins somewhere you’ll incorporate them into your routine – like next to your toothbrush or your glasses.  

 3. Put down the electronics. 

What’s the first thing you do each morning? Pick up your phone and read the news? Read email? Check Facebook or IG? Check the weather? Electronics can overstimulate your mind, and can be a strain on your eyes. Back away from the laptop, tablet and phone and unplug for a few hours each day. Pick up a book (not an e-book!), go for a walk or do some breathing and meditation. The inner peace and quiet you’ll feel is worth it. Don’t forget, “tech neck” is real!  

4. Stand tall. 

How’s your posture? Are you hunched over a computer all day? Stretching and activities that build muscle strength and improve balance can also help achieve good posture. Have your shoulders and hips even; your weight balanced between both feet. Keep your chin parallel to the floor and your spine straight. Confidence can affect your posture – when you feel good and you look good, you’ll walk a little taller with your head held high.  

5. Develop a skincare routine

Taking care of your skin is another step towards wellness. Create a skincare routine that’s easy and simple enough to fit into your busy life. Be realistic with your time and your goals, if your routine is overly complicated or involves too many products, it’s  unlikely that you’ll maintain it. At the very least, clean skin and moisturized skin are always a good idea – after washing your face, apply face cream in the morning and at night before bed. And although our Lexi Skin products don’t have SPF in them, make sure you always apply sunscreen, every day.
